Abstract/Description

The Normandy Invasion is one of the most important and most studied battles of world history. The heroism of those who fought in Normandy has been well documented in numerous books, films, and documentaries. As Americans, much of what we are taught about this invasion focuses on the American troops that participated. While the American military played an incredibly important role in the success of this operation, it would be foolish to overlook the sacrifices made by the British people and soldiers. This paper will explain the important role British supplies, British soldiers, and British leaders played in Operation Overlord. Specifically, this paper describes the British leaders that helped plan the operation, the supplies the British provided for the operation, and the British soldiers that captured key strategic areas in Normandy.
