Abstract/Description

Transcription factor Glis3 is essential for proper kidney development, and may play an important role in the maintenance/formation of primary cilia. Loss of function of this gene in humans is characterized by neonatal diabetes, congenital hypothyroidism, and polycystic kidney disease. Zebrafish knockout models of the Glis3 gene have given important insight into the molecular mechanisms and pathways involved in these phenotypes, specifically with the kidney.
