Abstract/Description
This piece is a creative nonfiction story told through journal entries from 1923–1924 at Murray Normal School. Using archival photos and records, it imagines what campus life, early sports, and student traditions may have felt like before Murray State became what it is now. The piece focuses on how small moments like football games, pep rallies, the naming of the Thoroughbreds, and the story of Gilbert Graves helped shape the beginning of Murray’s athletic identity and tradition.
