Abstract/Description

Imagination is a powerful tool that allows us to turn our mundane reality into something new and exciting. In my six chapter graphic novel, Nira, two young girls use the power of their imaginations to turn their everyday lives into extraordinary adventures. Unlike a regular novel, this story is empowered by its illustrations. The graphic novel uses rounded shapes, bright colors, playful proportions, and dynamic compositions to build a world in which readers can be creative. Through this presentation, I will analyze how I use elements of art and design to empower that imagination within viewers. I will also consider how artists such as Kiana Khansmith, Dana Terrace, and Devin Elle Kurtz use these elements in similar ways to amplify stories. I aim to convey immersive and exciting emotions with my work, guiding readers into a new world. Nira shows that imagination is for everyone, no matter their age.
