Abstract/Description
This study looks to build on prior research analyzing the behavioral and social ramifications of climate change by investigating the link between interest in environmental issues and optimism for the future. Given prior studies into climate anxiety and optimism bias, I hypothesize that environmental interest negatively correlates with optimism so that as one is more interested in environmental issues they show less optimism for the future. This study utilizes a two-phase methodology combining second-hand analysis of GSS survey data with a proposed study investigating the connection among U.S. college students. This study will utilize both quantitative and qualitative research data to further our understanding of the potentially negative social effects of climate change.
