Abstract/Description

Formula One, often considered the pinnacle of motorsports, has multiple factors that can influence driver performance including the car, weather, and driver age. Age can play an important role in performance as younger drivers may have faster reaction times while older drivers may have greater racing experience and better decision-making skills. Through linear mixed models and generalized additive models, the study determines whether the driver’s age and the season of Formula One are statistically significant predictors of the driver’s success in Formula One. Results suggest that driver age is a significant predictor of driver success, however the season of Formula One and the interaction between age and season are not significant predictors of driver success. Understanding the relationship between age and driver performance may help inform discussions about driver development and career longevity in Formula One.
