COMMUNICATION: A FOUNDATIONAL BLOCK OF UNCERTAINTY NAVIGATION PERTAINING TO CAREER DECISION MAKING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

This paper explores the increasing uncertainty that surrounds the professional work environment, and four factors specifically that have led to the increase in uncertainty. Both non-theoretical and theoretical approaches are offered for navigating career uncertainty, from which individuals can strengthen their own knowledge and skills for managing uncertainty as it pertains to their careers. Ultimately, this discussion will serve as a resource to assist individuals with improving their professional development, by giving them the tools to mitigate professional stagnation, through the ability to make career management decisions when faced with uncertainty. Communication will be addressed as the fundamental tool which allows these uncertainty navigation approaches to work successfully.
