EFFECTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON ATHLETES' MENTAL HEALTH
Abstract
Abstract
Social media (SM) is an important feature of modern sports. Many athletes rely on social networking platforms, including TikTok, Snapchat, X (formerly known as Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook, to communicate with each other and share both personal and professional experiences. Excessive use of these digital platforms has a wide range of impacts on an athlete’s mental well-being. The potential effects of SM on the psyche of professional athletes have an impact on their well-being. Given the widespread use of these platforms and the difficulties athletes encounter in navigating digital platforms, examining their impacts on mental health is crucial for psychologists, sports scientists and athletes. A particular emphasis of the study is on athletes affiliated with professional sporting organizations, where SM usage is highly prevalent.
