Art Supports Wellness: Appropriate Art Education and Art Therapy Integration
Abstract
There are numerous benefits of integrating art therapy techniques into the general art curriculum. By joining these two practices, educators can help alleviate trauma symptoms in children who have been exposed to adverse childhood experiences, while supporting healthy emotional regulation, and helping students develop resilience. In doing so, instructors aid in the development of stable relationships by conveying safety in a positive setting. This paper provides depth for each of these benefits by bringing together knowledge from the fields of therapy and education. Then, the work delivers thorough descriptions of appropriate techniques to facilitate integration. Finally, the paper examines the instructional approaches of various researchers.
