The Steps and Challenges of a Project Manager to Complete a Project

Abstract

This study investigates the important stages in a project manager's efforts to implement a project and the often encountered obstacles. It starts by defining what project management is and why it’s necessary across most disciplines. The project life-cycle and the function of the project manager during each phase is then discussed. This research project explores various project management methodologies and focuses on the crucial skills and traits required by a project manager to thrive.

The research project also clarifies the distinction between leadership and management, and why you need both. It focuses on what a project manager does – decision making, problem solving, stakeholder communication, and team management. Encouraging staff, conflict resolution and monitoring performance are also cited as critical leadership responsibilities.

The second section follows to discuss the scheduling aspect of the project management. Regular readers will have already learned about how to develop a robust project plan, determine deadlines, establish a work breakdown structure (WBS) and get to grips with resourcing and budgeting. It also includes sections on risk management and how to address unforeseen issues. Scope and objective development and the creation of a communication plan are emphasized as important facets of the planning process.

The paper conclusion outlines main lessons for today’s project managers and suggests that the future is beginning to build skills at the "bottom" of the curve. Project managers can support teams in achieving their goals by facilitating the correct steps and being prepared for common pitfalls.
