THE IMPORTANCE OF LIBRARY MEDIA IN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMS
Abstract
Within this paper, the information given will show why libraries should be utilized and should have a place in communities everywhere. This paper is going to examine many articles that have been published about research regarding the library and everything the library provides for school systems all over the world. These articles vary from the roles that the library has done for them academically and socially to professionally. Some key points that are going to be mentioned are as follows: the roles that the library plays for underprivileged students, school collaborations, access to more resources, learning at a young age, and community outreach, all of which are essential not only for children but also for the library itself to be successful. Libraries are often taken for granted and assumed to only provide books. Although they do have books, they also have many wonderful and vital resources for an aspiring student to learn and blossom in the classroom, including books, movies, music, and other technological devices that can access information. With that being said, libraries are often not thought of as a popular place to go to when you need information. Whenever a person really needs information, they usually just do a simple search on the internet, but that can only get you so far. The public has gotten used to all of the advancements that technology has had on our lives, but there is so much unrecognized and untapped potential that the library holds. We could all benefit from it if we were to use this valuable resource efficiently and effectively. Not only is the library a place that has access to tons of information, but it is also a safe and effective spot for people to be themselves. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in ten years libraries will become obsolete and not have a place in our society. This can make a huge impact for people in smaller and mid-sized communities who enjoy and use the library's resources and want to learn things that they never dreamed of learning on a daily basis.
