The Cost of Government Misconduct
Abstract
This paper investigates financial misconduct across different levels of government, from small local districts to large state and federal programs. Through real case studies, it shows how weak oversight, poor leadership, and flawed systems allow public money to be misused without real consequences. The cases include failures in education, housing, emergency aid, and public infrastructure. Problems keep surfacing, whether caused by bad decisions, greed, or outright fraud, and most of the time, very little is done to fix them. While this project does not try to solve every issue, it focuses on what keeps going wrong and points out the common-sense steps that could have made a difference. The goal is to give an honest look at how these failures happen and what needs to change to stop them.
