The Truth About Female Students with ADHD and the Implications of Going Undiagnosed
Abstract
This essay reviews research that shows female students are significantly underdiagnosed with ADHD when compared to their male counterparts and why this is so. It discusses the implications of female students going undiagnosed or being misdiagnosed. It discusses frequently misdiagnosed conditions and co-occurring conditions that appear with ADHD in both females and males. This essay also discusses several ways teachers and schools can provide adequate support to students with ADHD, and how adults can look for ADHD in female students.
