THE HISTORY, IMPACT, AND ADVANCEMENT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE FIELD OF VETERINARY MEDICINE
Abstract
The use of Artificial Intelligence has taken on new meaning with every advancement, but in recent years, the integration of AI into the medical field has transported medicine from an exclusively human driven playing field to an avant-garde domain emerging with innovation and progress. With the foundation of veterinary medicine dating back to the 1700’s, it is clear to see the adaptation of healthcare. With the help of this technology, veterinary medicine has developed and expanded to include research, vaccines, early detection models and more. Recent studies show the benefits and limitations to AI in a multitude of subsections of animal healthcare as AI grows and expands. AI is not limited to its most common faces, such as ChatGPT or Siri, but has vast potential and has been utilized in areas such as animal testing reduction, cancer identification, vaccine research, and agricultural farming. Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the healthcare field can be referenced by many names like Natural Language Processing, Large Language Models, Machine Learning and more. These terms can be expansive by definition, but what is their actual impact on the field of Veterinary Medicine and how have times changed since AI has come along?
