Parent Involvement
Abstract
Abstract
Parent involvement is a critical role in children’s development. In order for children to have a successful education, parents must be involved in parent-teacher conferences, assist with homework and build a relationship with their children. Children with involved parents attain more in social/emotional development, cognitive development, and language development. Children with involved parents have more control of their emotions and show exceptional behavior in the classroom. Therefore, the children who are able to verbalize their emotions and needs have self-control and remain calm. Parent involvement is crucial for the children to receive services such as therapy and treatment for speech, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The therapy and treatment will help diminish the negative effects of the developmental delays such as being destructive and disruptive. Children with involved parents progress in the developmental aspects of social/emotional, cognitive, language and behavior with a higher academic performance. Children’s development is framed from the influence of the parents, family dynamics, parenting styles, the community in which the child lives, self-confidence, independence, responsibility, expectations and receiving services for developmental delays such as speech, ADHD and ASD.
