Overcoming Cultural Barriers in the Classroom

Abstract

This presentation is based on the findings of a research study done at an international university in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The focus of the study was to identify ways in which cultural differences and varying expectations between teachers and students influenced the quality of interaction and student achievement particularly in English language classes. The focus of the presentation is to identify the culturally related issues noted in the study and subsequent research paper and offer some potential solutions for both ESL and general education teachers working in a multicultural classroom.
