The Jackson Purchase Historical Society was established in 1958 by amateur historians with an interest in preserving and promoting the regional history of southwestern Kentucky and northwestern Tennessee. The primary region of interest includes the present day counties of Ballard, Carlisle, Calloway, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Marshall, and McCracken in Kentucky and Henry, Lake, Obion, and Weakley in Tennessee.
