Abstract

Hazel Young describes her experiences working at the Ken-Rad Tube Manufacturing Corporation of Owensboro, Kentucky during the Second World War. She describes the hiring process and her job assignments at the factory. She recalls the working conditions and the various amenities provided by the company for the workers. The interview concludes with her opinions on company benefits and the influence of labor unions.

Biographical/Historical Note

Hazel Young was born in 1923 at Owensboro, Kentucky. Soon after graduating from high school in 1941 she was employed by Ken-Rad Tube Manufacturing Corporation. She met her husband at Ken-Rad and was married in October 1941. She worked at the plant until late 1942 when her husband was drafted and she relocated with him to a military training base. She returned to Ken-Rad for another year after her husband was stationed overseas.
