Twice Exceptional Students: Reaching Full Potential

Katelyn Head and Rhea Ann Jackson

Abstract: Twice Exceptional, or 2e students have the potential to present challenges for many educators. Twice Exceptional refers to students who are both gifted and have a disability. Many 2e students fall within the cracks of mainstream education due to their disability masking their giftedness or vice versa. When a students giftedness and disability mask one another, they can create

coping skills that portray the exceptional student as a typical learner. Along with coping skills, challenging behaviors can manifest within the 2e students that further inhibit their learning process. The most vital aspect of teaching that we must ensure we are doing is providing the support and materials that will allow students to reach their full potential in our classroom. This poster will provide clarification of 2e students, high-leverage teaching strategies, and positive behavior supports that will work cohesively to access the full potential of our Twice Exceptional students.
