Abstract/Description
Effects of Photo Editing on Young Adults
Media influences young adults through photo editing and false representations of reality. Although the media skews body image, it also influences political, emotional, and relational expectations. This is important in the fundamental development of this generation. In this
project, we will measure how media affects our behavioral patterns in respect to our consumption of products, core values, and aspirations. The millennial generation’s definition of social norms are different because of the increase of social media in our culture. Our focus is on the social and mental impact of photo editing in major magazines such as People, Vogue, and Reader’s Digest. We will be discussing how photo editing in magazines and media can affect young adults lives, physically and mentally. We will begin by researching the code of ethics on photo editing and if major magazines are abiding by this code of ethics. The use of photo editing in magazines and media has even infiltrated the daily lives of this generation in the form of photo editing apps for amaetur photographers and the general population.
To conduct our research we sent a survey to college students between the ages of 18-23. After conducting this research, 60 percent of the survey participants are aware of photo-editing in the media. The most preferred type of media is Instagram followed by facebook, snapchat and twitter. About 50 percent of the participants said the media affects their personal lives.
