Abstract/Description
Research has proven that swaddling newborns during painful procedures helps to decrease the pain they experience. Neonates have a lower pain threshold and immature systems for modulating pain (Grunau, 2013); therefore, repeated exposure to painful stimuli may cause brain deformities and nervous system complications. Through the basic action of swaddling during painful procedures, nurses can decrease potential harm and produce greater outcomes for neonates.
