Abstract/Description
Alarm fatigue is defined as sensory overload, which desensitizes clinicians to alarms and results in missed alarms, and potentially the death of patients (Bacon & Woo, 2020). Rather than attempting to make alarms louder or different to catch the attention of nurses, this implementation strives to prevent false alarms to decrease the frequency of alarms. To minimize false alarms, this project is researching the effectiveness of daily electrode changes and skin preparation to ensure adequate contact is maintained between the electrode and skin, so telemetry alarms are accurate indicators of the patient’s cardiac rhythm.
