Abstract/Description

ABSTRACT

Today, the availability of news is robust. Whether an individual consumes media on television, listens to the radio, or surfs the Internet, media is a powerful tool that can change hearts and shape minds. So how does media consumption affect public opinion on immigration? With a growing immigration crisis, especially at the United States border with Mexico, thousands of world citizens are being displaced. Conflict theory best explains the mechanisms of borders and immigration policy. This paper contributes to the sociology of media and immigration by further examining the impact that systems of power can have on public discourse and influence individuals’ attitudes towards salient issues as immigration.
