The Role of Hemp in Sustainable Agriculture
Abstract
Industrial hemp or Cannabis sativa, is a wide yield and variety crop produced in most parts of the world. This crop holds key traits that make is a sustainable resource including carbon sequestering, reduction of deforestation, limited water intake, and other factors in which all play a role in hemp being sustainable. In this paper, we will look into the sustainability of hemp through legislative measure, products and uses, and overall methods of cultivation. A multitude of legislative documents have been scoured in order to obtain important information regarding hemps legality and introduction back into society. Once this is understood, further studies were done to produce a multitude of uses, the market for hemp products, and the economic impact this eco-friendly sector has.
