Academic Advising and Coaching
Abstract
Designed as exploratory and descriptive research, this review will help you to understand the purpose, content, and the perceived effectiveness of academic/success coaching programs in higher education (Robinson, 2015). When reviewing many articles, stories, studies, and journals about all the ins and outs of Academic Advising and Coaching, the research found that it started way before we ever would have thought. Even though you would think that both Advising and Coaching would be the same because they both help students with their academic success, they can be quite different in how they help those students and what they help them with. Both can be approached in so many ways by so many different people that want what is best for their students and their peers. When looking at many studies research also showed that if the advisors help their students in every way possible and show them that they genuinely care, grades and GPAs from students will be higher and they will create a bond consisting of trust and confidence. One new form that has also helped the students and their advisors and coaches is the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. AI helps simplify the school institution’s operations and improves all communication with students, donors, alumni, faculty, and staff. It also engages potential students to analyze data by providing valuable insights (Where AI and Expertise Power Success, (Where AI and Expertise Power Success, 2024) Without academic advisors and coaches most of the research shows that students would be lost and would more than likely be confused about what they want in life, which classes to take, and would probably fail most classes, because they wouldn’t have anyone to show them the way and help them through it all.
