THE CRITICAL NEED FOR HEALTHCARE IN RURAL COMMUNITIES: WORKFORCE SOLUTIONS, SYSTEMATIC BARRIERS, AND PATHWAYS TO ACCESS
Abstract
Access to healthcare in rural areas is often overlooked. The rural residents are sometimes left with no other option but to drive long distances just to receive healthcare services. Provider shortages and underfunded clinics are some of the other main issues when discussing rural health because this means that even the most basic services can be out of reach for some people. Not having a solution with these problems can often lead to higher rates of mental and physical illnesses and deaths. Not having easy access to healthcare is a big issue. Not only does it affect their health, it also effects the entire community. Everyone should have the same opportunity to receive healthcare benefits in the comfort of their own area, regardless of if it’s a rural area. The lack of healthcare infrastructure leads to people living in rural areas having to make difficult decisions.
