Abstract
Although there have been many studies that look into career interests, however there is not a study that involves career interests and an individual’s definition of the self. The present study looked into career interests and how an individual chooses a specific field to pursue. This study investigated whether someone’s career field interest had any relation to how they defined themselves. Four self-construal scales (independent, interdependent, relational and physical) and a career interest survey were used to assess the variables. The sample was 23 undergraduates at Eastern Kentucky University. The results showed small significant findings within the relational and independent self-construals. Both self-construals shared a positive association with family related career interests. The relational self-construal also had a significant correlation with teaching related interests. It was also found with the independent self-construal that there was a correlation with human resource related interests
